Emergency ReliefProgress Report: Fiscal Year 2016 (October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2016)

In 2016, World Vision reached 15.4 million people in disasters and crises with life-saving aid and critical relief. Some of these disasters dominated the news, but most received little attention.

Through the support of grant funds and our private donors, $401 million in humanitarian aid was provided to people across the globe. But these figures do not capture the true impact of your support. Reaching someone in their greatest hour of need provides so much more than food, water, or shelter—it reminds them of our linked humanity. It restores hope and dignity. It is our faith in action.

Thank you for partnering with World Vision in this humbling work.

Syria E-bookThe Syria conflict has now killed nearly a quarter of a million people and displaced roughly 12 million. On the fifth year anniversary of the conflict, a short new ebook by Rich Stearns, World Vision U.S. president, explores questions of how we, especially the Church, can be more than a band-aid on a gaping wound in the Middle East. He offers an overview of the crisis, first-hand accounts from visits with refugees in the countries surrounding Syria, and reasons we can make a difference for families who are suffering.

Haiti earthquakeOn January 12, 2010, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck Haiti, affecting more than 3 million people — one of every three. The quake killed 222,570 people and injured more than 300,000. More than 1 million people were left homeless and vulnerable. World Vision’s initial response efforts focused on the basics: food, shelter, water, and sanitation. Health clinics were set up to help care for the injured, and hospitals were stocked with medicines and equipment. After one year, emergency supplies were still being distributed to families. Two years later, World Vision is helping Haitian families rebuild lives and recover livelihoods.
