Mark C. Smith
Senior Director, Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs

Mark joined World Vision in December 2014 and is responsible for providing leadership to World Vision's engagement with rapid on‐set and complex emergencies: coordinating resource mobilization efforts; donor and partner networking; strategy development; innovation, and provision of technical assistance for field operations.

Most recently he was a senior strategist within Development Team at the American Red Cross in Washington D.C. Mark was responsible for developing the fundraising strategy and materials for corporations, foundations and major donors, specifically focusing on the Disaster Services and international work of the American Red Cross.

Mark began his humanitarian career in Calcutta, India in 1999 with Mission of Mercy (Canada) as their first field representative, primarily serving as Humanitarian Coordinator. He has also directed the international humanitarian efforts of Convoy of Hope (2002‐2004) and World Relief (2004 – 2008).

Before starting in international humanitarian work he worked as a criminal defense trial lawyer from 1993 – 1999 in Vancouver, B.C.
