Bio/Story

The couple’s involvement with World Vision began in 2006 when they learned about child sponsorship opportunities through their local church in Southern California. They became aware of the need for clean water in early 2024 when Yiming had the chance to meet with their representative, Andy, at a local café. They learned even more at a local meeting and at the Everyone Needs a Believer Conference in 2025. They are still praying for the right time and opportunity for a Vision Trip. Matthew 25:35-40 was especially on their hearts as they heard more about community needs, and this led them to increase their involvement with World Vision.

Chengning and Yiming are both natives of Hangzhou, China. They both attended Zhejiang University, got married in Hangzhou, and then came to the U.S. together as Yiming started pursuing a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at UCLA in early 2000. After graduating, Yiming started an engineering career that developed advanced battery management solutions for consumer electronics. Chengning obtained a Master's degree in international business and chose to be a stay-at-home mom nurturing their three children: Alicia, Christina, and Noah. Alicia recently completed a Master's degree in elementary education and is working as a foreign English teacher in a Catholic elementary school in Taiwan. Christina is a sophomore at an art school in Chicago. Noah is in third grade in elementary school.

Chengning and Yiming are active in their local church, where they attend and lead small groups and Bible studies.
