With the support of our donor partners, World Vision has been able to make some audacious commitments for our Water & Health efforts. This newsletter not only provides a status update but also announces our new commitments. Together, we’re stepping up even further to have greater impact!
For Health, we'd committed to upgrade 2,000 health clinics between 2019 and 2023 by providing clean water on premises and, as needed, handwashing facilities, latrines, training and equipping healthcare personnel, and training and equipping community health workers. This commitment — to serve an estimated 18 million people — is the largest we’ve heard of in this sector by a nongovernmental organization (NGO). And as of the end of calendar year 2022, we'd reached our goal!
For Water, we've committed to reach 50 million people with clean water between 2016 and 2030. This too is the largest commitment that we know of in the water sector by an NGO. At the end of fiscal year 2022 we'd reached 25.5 million people, more than halfway toward the goal. As essential partners in this work, please join us in celebrating this milestone of changed lives!
Stepping up further impact
Together, we've been able to make an incredible impact, reaching some of the most vulnerable people on the planet with access to life-saving healthcare and life-transforming clean water. But we're challenging ourselves to go further, with your support. More than 800 children die every day from diarrhea caused by contaminated water, poor sanitation, and unsafe hygiene practices, and globally, the lives of 1 million mothers and babies could be saved by simply improving hygiene in healthcare clinics. So we're focused on doing even more in these areas by 2030.
With the support of our donor partners, we have committed to, between 2023 and 2030:
Reach an additional 30 million people with access to clean water, including finishing the job of ensuring clean water for everyone, everywhere we work in Zambia and Honduras.
Upgrade 3,000 health facilities with clean water, including strengthening the health system in every health facility, everywhere we work in Niger, Zambia and Rwanda.
As we finish the job of providing access to clean water and improved healthcare to everyone in the areas where we work in these countries, we'll be working to announce additional countries where we will finish the job. Reaching 30 million people with clean water and upgrading 3,000 healthcare facilities by 2030 will require a considerable increase in our current rate of impact. Thank you to everyone who is committing with us to do even more than we’ve done before.
Stepping up transparency
We’ve added a new feature to our Power BI dashboard, "Impact of our water programs". You can now view the impact for each individual country using a global map. It allows you to hover over a specific country to see the number of people reached with clean water and search by individual year from 2016 to 2023. I’d encourage you to find Rwanda and see the cumulative impact that we’ve had since 2019 when we committed to finish the job and reach everyone, everywhere we work. Hint: It’s the tiny country under Uganda. Click here for a quick tutorial on how to navigate the map.
Prayer requests
Give praise for the impact that we’ve had together in reaching millions of people with resources to build healthier, stronger futures.
Give thanks for our donor partners and leaders who have encouraged us to do even more for the most vulnerable in the name of Jesus.
Pray that World Vision is able to meet the additional challenge outlined in our new 2030 goals.
