World Vision reaches goal of equipping 20 million people worldwide with clean water
Despite the challenges of operating in a global pandemic, we’re celebrating a major milestone toward our goal of reaching everyone, everywhere we work with clean water by 2030. On February 18, we announced that the 20 millionth person worldwide had been equipped with lasting access to clean water.
This ambitious five-year goal was announced in 2016 as part of our larger goal of comprehensive clean water access, which would reach around 50 million people. Along the way, World Vision became the leading nongovernmental provider of clean water, reaching one new person with clean water every 10 seconds. It’s thanks to donors like you that we’ve reached this monumental milestone!

Important progress toward ending FGM in Kenya and Uganda
On the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) on February 6, 2021, representatives from Kenya and Uganda signed an agreement to end the FGM practices still being carried out in their countries. Celebrations marking this day were held in West Pokot, Kenya, with the anti-FGM board and the county government of West Pokot agreeing to create awareness on what they called outdated cultural practices.
At least 200 million women and girls alive today have been subjected to FGM, which is a direct precursor to child marriage and limits girls’ potential. But there is hope!
World Vision’s Kenya Big Dream project gets to the root causes of FGM and child marriage. One such approach, Alternative Rites of Passage, is a week of education culminating in a ceremony for girls and boys to affirm traditional values and empower them to create change as they understand their worth in God’s eyes. Your ongoing support is crucial to help end the practice of FGM in Kenya.
