In Celebration of Partnerships
World Vision celebrates our many partners and donors that enable us to reach millions of people every year with clean water, dignified sanitation, and healthy hygiene habits. We have a wide range of partnerships and collaborations and are highlighting some of them in this newsletter with brief updates. Of course, the most important partnerships are the tens of thousands of local communities with whom we partner to co-create solutions that last. We also work with a wide range of other local partners including with governments, the private sector, and other not-for-profits. Here’s an update on some of our key partners:
charity: water: World Vision is implementing $5.35 million in charity: water grants to span across FY19 and into FY20 in Malawi, Mali, Niger, Mozambique reaching more than 300,000 people with clean water.
Conrad N Hilton Foundation: In March 2019, the Hilton Foundation approved a five-year grant of $630,000 for World Vision Ethiopia. This is in addition to a four-year $3 million grant for 5 partners to achieve universal coverage in the Asutifi North District of Ghana reaching 32,000 people and a $3 million grant in Mali providing WASH in health care facilities.
Drexel University and Desert Research Institute: World Vision has partnered with Drexel and DRI to develop and retain world-class leaders through a capacity building program involving online and face-to-face training. During the first half of 2019, this effort trained 48 World Vision staff across 18 African countries.
Golf Fore Africa: Golf Fore Africa donated $1.27 million for Zambia and Zimbabwe, including support of efforts in Zimbabwe to support and empower girls through Sesame Workshop’s Girl Talk program which helps to address menstrual hygiene management.
Grundfos: World Vision continues to expand it’s strategic work with Grundfos to provide solar-powered mechanized water solutions towards our commitment of reaching 2 million people by 2020. During the first six months, pumps were procured for installation in nine countries in FY19. This includes both Grundfos submersible pumps as well as their automated water kiosks called AQTap Water ATM. The Grundfos and World Vision partnership was highlighted as a success recently by USAID.
P&G: P&G has teamed up with National Geographic and Global Citizen to create a six part documentary and web content that includes Edgar Sandoval, World Vision US CEO and President, and Patty Heaton (World Vision US Ambassador).
Sesame Workshop and Stanford University: WASH-UP! school projects are now in schools and learning centers in 12 countries and we estimate a total of 300,000 children will have completed this hygiene and sanitation behavior change program by the close of FY19. Stanford recently was awarded a grant from USAID to determine how take-home objects from the schools can impact the program.
Team World Vision: Team World Vision conducted the May 2019 Global 6K for Water event across 22 countries, with 1,000 host sites, involving more than 52,000 participants. This event has provided more than $3 million in funding for water.
