Thanks to our donor partners and the incredible work of our field staff, World Vision has made tremendous progress in addressing the global water crisis. We are on track to reach everyone, everywhere we work with clean water – 50 million people between 2016- 2030. We have now reached 22.5 million people since 2016 and will surpass the mid-way point towards our goal by 2023. We also have committed to reach everyone, everywhere we work in three countries ahead of 2030, with Rwanda being completed in 2023, Zambia in 2025, and Honduras in 2027.
In Zambia, we previously shared how Agnes was praying that World Vision would bring her and her community clean water. Thanks to the generosity of our donor partners, World Vision was able to reach more than 213,000 people in Zambia with clean water last year, including Agnes. In this two-minute video, we travel back to meet with Agnes and hear from her now that she has clean water.
With the incredible impact we have seen to date, it’s important that we remember that there are great needs and suffering because of unclean water. World Vision addresses this by focusing on providing clean water in or near people’s homes as well as for the nearby school and health care center. This newsletter takes us to Zambia to share the needs of each of these areas through three short videos.
Community Needs
In this two-minute video, a water chairman takes us to the water source of his community where his son drowned and eloquently describes the need for clean water in his community.
School Needs
In this two-minute video, a primary school head teacher shows us the water source of his school and where he hopes to have clean water. A girl student describes how the lack of a way to manage her periods results in missed school for her every month.
Health Center Needs
In this 90 second video, a mother and a head nurse describe the need for clean water in the health center. Currently, women must bring their own water to the clinic to wash themselves and their newborns after giving birth. Globally, if we improve the hygiene situation in health care centers, we could save the lives of 400,000 babies a year. World Vision provides comprehensive water, sanitation, handwashing stations, infection prevention control, and training of health care personnel.
World Vision commits to providing the people highlighted in this video – Beatrice, James and the Ngoma clinic community – with clean water. We invite you to join us.
