New Video Showing how World Vision is Reaching Millions of People in Response to COVID-19
We’ve prepared a new video that describes why COVID-19 poses a dire threat to vulnerable people in developing countries, and why we need to act now to prevent catastrophic impact in developing countries.
World Vision’s expertise in the prevention of the spread of infectious disease has never been more relevant than during this pandemic. One of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is to ensure that people have a way to wash their hands — and understand why it’s so critical. And of course, it’s difficult to wash your hands effectively without clean water.
Because of the investment of our donors over many years in building our hygiene education, water, sanitation, and healthcare capabilities, we are already responding to this crisis and reaching millions of people. For example, we’ve already provided more than 61,000 hand-washing stations in response to COVID-19 and we’re ramping up our work to provide personal protective equipment, handwashing, and clean water in healthcare facilities. We encourage you to take a few minutes to watch this video.
University of North Carolina Evaluation of World Vision Programs
World Vision continues our work with the Water Institute at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (UNC) to learn and build upon our expertise. As part of this collaboration, we conducted the largest evaluation of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programming to date, assessing over 36,000 households, 2,532 water points, 2,691 schools, and 2,035 healthcare facilities in 14 countries. We’ve prepared a new one-pager to simply communicate the major findings of this massive study.
Importantly, during this time of COVID-19, we can see that there’s a critical need to ramp up access to hand washing. For example, results from the study indicate that World Vision's area of greatest achievement was providing households with access to water. The majority of households had at least basic water services, and a majority of schools had basic, on-premise water services.
However, the results showed that only one in six households had access to hand-washing facilities, one in six healthcare facilities had hand-washing facilities with soap and water, and less than one in seven schools had a basic hand-washing facility. Our teams are committed to improving in this area and are developing the plans to do this as part of a new five-year business strategy. Here’s the new one-pager with the UNC results.
