New "water in schools" offer

For several years, we’ve been providing opportunities for our donor partners to invest in helping World Vision provide water points in communities and to upgrade healthcare facilities. For an investment of $15,000, we provide a report of the specific water point once it is completed and for $125,000, we provide a report and video of the specific healthcare facility that has been upgraded.

Because we focus on reaching schools as well as community members and healthcare facilities, we've added an opportunity for donor partners to invest $50,000 to bring clean water access to one school.

With an investment of $50,000 to bring clean water access to a school, we will provide a digital report for the specific school upgraded that will include photos, GPS coordinates, and the number of students and teachers served. The report will typically be provided in 6-9 months.

The need is great

In the remote areas where World Vision works, half of schools do not have clean water on premises and only 1 in 8 have basic handwashing facilities. Globally, 546 million children attend schools that have no water access, and an even greater number of children go to schools that lack basic hygiene and sanitation facilities. Children must either bring their own water to school or go without, and many do not have access to safe water at home. The unhygienic conditions of schools without water, sanitation, and hygiene make learning difficult. Many girls drop out of school because of the lack of an ability to manage their periods while at school. Imagine the hardship of being a teacher in a school with no water and poor hygienic conditions.

Education is impaired

Children spend a large part of their day at school, and a lack of water, toilets, and handwashing stations impacts student learning, health, and dignity, particularly for girls. Every child has the right to a quality education, which includes access to drinking water and sanitation and hygiene services while at school.

How we’re responding

World Vision provides clean water access on the premises of schools, and, when needed, we also provide handwashing facilities and separate latrines for boys and girls. We not only provide the upgraded infrastructure but also work with students to help them adopt healthy behaviors including handwashing. We are a leader in providing water, sanitation, and hygiene in schools and every year upgrade more than 1,000 schools serving more than half a million children.

New commitment for schools

We’ve committed to reaching 30 million people with clean water and upgrading 3,000 health clinics (serving an estimated 30 million people) between 2023 and 2030. Now, consistent with this new offer, World Vision commits to upgrade more than 10,000 schools with water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities between 2023 and 2030, improving educational and health outcomes and supporting dignity for more than 5 million children.

Health update

In fiscal year 2023, in addition to upgrading 444 healthcare centers with clean water and 626 healthcare centers with handwashing facilities, our health team estimates that we reached approximately 1.5 million children through our efforts with community health workers, including treating 250,000 children through our efforts to manage malnutrition.

New UN resolution on healthcare centers

The United Nations General Assembly recently passed a resolution encouraging country governments to fund healthcare facility upgrades including sustainable clean water, sanitation, hygiene, waste, and electricity services. We're confident this resolution will create opportunities for World Vision to work with governments to leverage investments from our donor partners and have an even bigger impact.

Humanitarian award

I was honored and humbled to receive the John Pepper E. Humanitarian Award from the P&G Alumni Association for my work to help provide clean water during my career at P&G and now at World Vision. This recognition is thanks to the amazing people that I’ve had the privilege to work with.

Prayer requests

Give thanks for the tremendous impact made in vulnerable communities in 2023 because of donor partner support and God’s generous provision.

Pray that every child can attend a school with access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities so they can learn with dignity in a healthy environment.

Pray that the new offer for upgrading schools receives strong support so that millions of students will receive the best educational experience possible.
