Christian Discipleship Devotional Christmas

A new season of Advent

“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.” —Isaiah 9:2 (NIV)

During the long, dark evenings of winter, the devotional practice of Advent can serve as a warm light to guide our hearts toward Christ. Under the welcoming glow of its candles, we pause to be aware of Immanuel — “God with us” — and lean into the miracle of the incarnation.

Advent creates space to be reminded of the bigger picture of God’s heart for us and the world, slowing us down to connect to Him and to one another. These set-aside moments fill us with wonder at the true joy of Christmas, expanding our hearts to “prepare Him room” and work in us anew.

Advent begins on Sunday, November 27th

We’re excited to share an engaging new Advent guide created by the talented Danielle Strickland along with her friends Bette Dickinson, Cheryl Nembhard, and Rob Perry. For each of the four weeks of Advent, a weekly theme will help you encounter our living God through spiritual practices, reflections, and videos created by the author that reveal fresh insights to complement your Scripture reading.

The Advent guide also includes family-friendly activities and YouVersion Bible reading plans, so families can make memories together while drawing near to God.

We invite you to download your Advent guide today and consider sharing it with friends and family, too. The journey of faith is always better with a traveling companion! We pray it will be a blessing to you — warming your life with the Light of the World given to us in Jesus.
