Chrissy smiles while seated behind her sewing machine in Malawi.

Through investing in her local savings club, Chrissy started a tailoring business.

In Malawi, COVID-19 had eroded the savings of hardworking women entrepreneurs like Chrissy and those in her savings and loans group. These groups are a smart and simple way for members to learn financial basics as they convert small amounts of cash into savings that can then be loaned to other members as credit.

Three children with sad expressions stand before a pile of bones on the dry ground in Kenya.

In drought-ravaged northern Kenya, sisters Ekaato, Apayo, and Ikaru view the remains of their beloved goat.

Powerful portraits: "Hunger has a name"

Ten-year-old Peter of Turkana, Kenya, looks into the camera with a serious expression.

In Turkana, Kenya, only about 40 cents of school fees separate Peter from school, where his favorite subject is mathematics — and where food is served at lunch.

For all of us at World Vision, global hunger is not merely a statistic. Hunger is a name. A name that a mother chose. A person, made in God’s image, whom He calls beloved.

In this article, we share some of these names. Together, let’s move beyond the vastness of numbers that leave us cold and open our hearts to those who hunger — by name.
