Today is a day most economic development professionals can only dream of. That day when your organization launches a massive plan that you know will lift millions of people out of extreme poverty. My dreams are coming true!
Tonight, at a special virtual event, World Vision officially launched our new 8-year business plan, THRIVE 2030 to a broader audience. As many of you already know, this plan is the largest effort World Vision U.S. has ever undertaken in the economic empowerment realm. The $285 million budget will reach 10 million people in 10 countries with the tools they need to lift themselves out of extreme poverty.
Think about what that means. Everyone everywhere World Vision workswho is currently living on less than $1.90 per day in these 10 countries will have the opportunity to change the trajectories of their lives. Every last one!
So many of you have walked this journey with us over the past 10 years. You've met our field staff, and looked into the eyes of hardworking people who - through no fault of their own - were barely able to survive, much less thrive. You've celebrated as we have seen people lift themselves out of extreme poverty. We would not be at this point if not for your faithful and sacrificial partnership.
"I thank my God every time I remember you. In every prayer for all of you, I always pray with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." —Philippians 1:3-6
With deep gratitude and great anticipation,
In Focus: World Vision launches new
Economic Empowerment Business Plan!
There's one number that will help you remember what our new 8-year business plan aims to accomplish. It's the number 10.
We will reach 10 million people
in 10 countrieswith the tools they need
to grow their incomes up to 10 times!
The plan is built on the foundation of our original THRIVE programs and the tremendous impact that has been documented. As reported previously, TANGO International’s evaluation of THRIVE Tanzania revealed game-changing results including:
Incomes are now nearly 10 times initial incomes
Farmers with diversified income sources increased from 44% to 95%
95% of THRIVE farmers handled shocks without negative coping strategies
Food insecurity decreased by 51%
The four powerful and proven tools we aim to deliver to the poorest of the poor includes:
Biblical Empowered Worldview training
Savings for Transformation Groups
Local Value Chain Development training
Loans to mature savings groups through Finance Accelerating Savings group Transformation (FAST)
Learn more about these tools and other key investments in digitization, efficiency, and capacity-building in the business plan.
Through close partnership with our ten field offices, VisionFund International, our World Vision U.S. donors, and leveraged resources from other partners, we will raise $285 million, with approximately $135 million from people like you.
Please consider sharing this great news with friends, family, and associates you believe would be interested in helping achieve something World Vision has never done before—in the name of Jesus Christ!
Celebrating: Wow! Another $10 million gift received
World Vision has received a second $10 million commitment THRIVE 2030!
One of our faithful donors, who has closely walked with us on our THRIVE journey, has expressed great excitement in our results from Tanzania and our plans for the future.
We are surprised, humbled, and thankful to God and to our donor for this great encouragement, and look forward to stewarding these resources so that millions may have the joy of lifting themselves out of extreme poverty.

Praise for the enthusiasm we are seeing from donor partners about THRIVE 2030.
Praise for the continuing strong work of VisionFund.
Pray for the economic empowerment field teams in 10 countries as they work on the detailed plans for THRIVE 2030. The countries are: Guatemala, Honduras, Senegal, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, and Myanmar.
Pray for both greatly needed rain and World Vision’s emergency response in the Horn of Africa. The drought has lasted now through 4 rainy seasons, which has resulted in famine. This is having significant impact on smallholder farmer families, communities, and entire regions. 32.3 million people are acutely food insecure, and 9.5 million people are experiencing emergency levels of food insecurity. Responding has become more difficult with food prices rising rapidly as a result of the war in Ukraine.
In 2021, 90 percent of World Vision's total operating expenses were used for programs that benefit children, families, and communities in need. Learn More.
