Strong Women Strong World - Beyond Access-high

In focus: International Women's Day — Invest In Women. Multiply Impact.

International Women’s Day is a global moment to turn solidarity into action. World Vision’s Beyond Access program does exactly that, empowering women to lift families and communities out of extreme poverty through a sequenced pathway of behavior change, access to clean water, and economic empowerment.

Beyond Access is grounded in a simple truth: When women gain time back, households are healthier, access to savings, skills, and markets expands, families thrive, and communities grow more resilient.

Evidence from Phase 1 of the program shows transformative gains in women's empowerment, income, and water access, reinforcing women and girls as the catalyst for lasting change.

  • Women earning income increased by an average of 42 percentage points.

  • Women with personal savings increased by an average of 51 percentage points.

  • Access to basic water improved by an average of 29 percentage points.

Building on the momentum of Phase 1, Beyond Access is expanding to reach 360,000 additional people in 12 countries by 2030, scaling what works to drive lasting change.

This International Women’s Day, we embrace the Give to Gain call. When people, organizations, and communities give generously, opportunities for women expand and impact ripples outward. Every contribution, whether funding or advocacy, compounds the power of Beyond Access. As support builds, lost hours become learning, caregiving becomes entrepreneurship, and barriers become breakthroughs. When women thrive, entire communities rise.

From Access to Agency: Data-Driven Lessons from Women-Centered WASH Programming — April 9, 2026, 9:00 a.m. CT

For the past three years, World Vision has implemented Beyond Access in Guatemala, Honduras, Kenya and Zimbabwe, placing women and girls at the center of development through the integration of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) and economic empowerment. Drawing on our collaborative learning approach with Emory University and local research partners, this seminar will share evidence of measurable gains in women’s access to water, income and savings, and participation in household and community decision-making.

You will gain practical insights into how these results were achieved, including lessons for designing, adapting, and scaling women-centered WASH programming grounded in data and active learning. You will also leave with clear takeaways on why and how integrating WASH and economic empowerment strengthens outcomes for women, families, and communities.
