Child exploitation is a tragedy of immense proportions. Worldwide, 85 million children are compelled into exploitative, dangerous forms of labor, including the sex trade, bonded labor, and jobs that place them in hazardous circumstances. Many more children are victims of abuse and violence, including sexual assault, domestic abuse, gang violence, female genital mutilation, and forced early marriage.
For a Christian, child-focused organization this is heart wrenching. It is difficult to talk about. But we can’t be silent. Empower girls and boys to protect themselves and help protect one another. Sample activities include creating youth clubs and teaching children life skills.
Strengthen families and caregivers to be the first line of protection and care for children. Sample activities include home visits from volunteers to support vulnerable children and families, Celebrating Families family–strengthening retreats, and Engaging Men small groups to help husbands and fathers play a significant role in protecting children from violence.
Catalyze churches and other faith communities to change behaviors and end harmful practices. Sample activities include birth registration campaigns and Channels of Hope training for faith leaders.
In addition, our child protection interventions support behavior and conduct in communities that create safe environments that value and protect children, especially the most vulnerable. We also partner with governments to support them in taking all appropriate measures to ensure the protection of children.
