February 6th may not seem important on the surface, but it is to millions of young girls around the world. Today, the world gathers to pray for and act to provide freedom for all girls, especially from Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and child marriage. Today is the day the world stands up to say, “We won’t forget about you.”

How do you begin to change something that impacts “millions” of girls? You begin with one. Vivian. The weight of poverty and cultural pressures forced Vivian — and many of her peers — to undergo FGM. About one month later, a stranger came and took her to his house to be his wife. Vivian was 12 years old.

Please join us

  • in prayer for the girls in Kenya who face these challenges, sometimes as early as 10 years old.
  • and consider a donation to help bring impacted girls to restoration as well as to protect others from FGM and child marriage in the first place.
    • For example, $10 can provide the ability for one girl or boy to attend a ceremony simply called the Alternative Right of Passage (ARP). Since FGM and child marriage are often part of a “coming of age” ceremony, a safe alternative allows cultural traditions to continue in a way that honors girls and boys while not putting them in harms way. The children can be celebrated and honored, but without a cutting and/or a symbol of being prepared for marriage. Over the life of the project, as many as 10,000 children will attend the Alternative Right of Passage ceremonies.
