In the United States, many people are making plans to celebrate the mother figures in their lives this weekend. Fragrant flowers and colorful balloons will brighten homes. Loving hugs will fill hearts with joy. Cards with personal and grateful words will bring a tear or two to a mother’s eyes...

But for so many mothers around the world, poverty leaves little room for celebration. In honor of mothers everywhere, we share with you this heartbreaking to heartwarming story about a special mother and daughter in Bangladesh. Theirs is a story of a past with no hope, to a present with a brighter future.
